Physical Description: The Wilson Valley Mitigation Bank is located east of the City of Temecula and north of the unincorporated area of Aguanga in Riverside County, California. The site is surrounded by natural habitat, with views of Palomar Mountain to the south and Vail Lake to the west. At this time, the Center is managing a total 1120 acres. The Western Riverside County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan anticipates acquisitions totaling approximately 40,000 acres of conserved wildlife habitat surrounding the Wilson Valley Mitigation Bank.

Conservation Purpose: The preserve was set aside as a mitigation area for developer impacts to Riversidian sage scrub, coastal California gnatcatcher, Stephens' kangaroo rat, and Quino checkerspot butterfly. The site is regionally important for conservation of high quality Riversidian sage scrub, as well as being part of a wildlife corridor that connects the Cleveland National Forest to Anza Borrega State Park.
Habitat Types: The site is dominated by high quality Riversidian sage scrub, chamise chaparral, and redshank chaparral with only minimal disturbance from past use. A small creek and willow woodland snake through the site and open into a sandy wash. In addition to the listed species, numerous sensitive wildlife species mentioned above, the site also supports San Diego horned lizard, orange-throated whiptail, mountain lion, Bell's sage sparrow, loggerhead shrike, rufous-crowned sparrow, and other sensitive species.

Management: The focus of management at the Mitigation Bank is to monitor plant and wildlife populations, track changes in vegetation and remove any non-native plants. Focused surveys for coastal California gnatcatcher and quino checkerspot butterfly will be conducted. Other management activities include avian community surveys, small mammal trapping and floral inventories.
Manager: The Wilson Valley Mitigation Bank is managed by Kim Klementowski.
