Physical Description: The Silverado Conservation Bank consists of approximately 2000 acres of Conservation Easement properties in the unicorporated area of Anza, Riverside County, California. Silverado shares a boundary with the Cahuilla Reservation. The Bank was formerly used for grazing cattle, and much of the surrounding Reservation lands continue to be used for grazing. The area is transitional between desert, mountain and coastal habitats and climate. Topography is undulating with a series of seasonal washes and intermittent streams. Conservation Purpose: The primary purpose of the Silverado Conservation Bank is to protect the area from encroaching development. The Bank was voluntarily established by the private land owner. The property in and around the Bank contains one of the most important and largest populations of the endangered Quino checkerspot butterfly. Populations of the endangered Stephens' kangaroo rat and threatened California gnatcatcher also reside on the property. Management: The Bank is managed by the property owner. The Center's responsibilities on the property are to monitor and enforce compliance with the Conservation Easement.
