CURRENT VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES County: Riverside, California Our western Riverside County staff welcomes volunteers to assist in a variety of tasks. These include trail maintenance, trash and litter cleanup, pulling weeds, and collecting and spreading seeds. Many of these activities are great opportunities for teachers in the Murrieta Valley or Temecula Valley School Districts who want to organize community service for their students, or for Scout troops who also are seeking to fill community service requirements. If you would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities in western Riverside County, please contact: Kim Klementowski Preserve Manager (951)226-7228 Phone/Fax e-mail: kklementowski@cnlm.org ________________________________________________________________________________ County: San Diego, California The Center welcomes individual and group volunteers at all of our San Diego preserves, including the current collaborative and Center sponsored projects below.
If you would like to discuss how to tailor a special event for your educational, community service, or Scouting group please call Markus Spiegelberg at 619-295-4953. Location: Rancho La Costa Habitat Conservation Area Rancho La Costa Habitat Conservation AreaEvent "Box Canyon South and Denk Mountain West Trails Project" Please help us repair and improve trails in this area of scenic, remote, and highly sensitive habitat within a wide perimeter of recently developed residential neighborhoods. Box Canyon and Denk Mountain are home to the last deer herd in Carlsbad, bobcat, coyote and several endangered or sensitive plant and animal species. Denk Mountain is the highest point of elevation in Carlsbad with stunning 360 degree views for 90 miles on clear days. If you are lucky you will hear the meow of the engandered gnatcatcher bird, see a shy mule deer, or touch the fearsome looking but harmless horned lizard.
Your good energy will join the fusion of a dynamic collaboration of students, Scouts, committed long time neighbors and enthusiastic new residents, nature lovers, hikers, mountain bikers and other user group volunteers who are helping us repair and improve the trail system in this beautiful core habitat conservation area with its many critical links and connections. The trails here include much beloved and well constructed pathways but also scars cut into the earth by off-road vehicles which have become non-sustainable erosion-wise, or which fragment key species habitat, so your efforts will help restore lost habitat, while channeling responsible passive recreational access for our children and the generations to come.
